Established in March 2009, Oriental Sails Joint Stock Company (Oriental Sails JSC) has laid the first bricks for an aspirational journey in the heritage area. Starting from nostalgic wooden ships, this business has constantly transformed itself to build a multi-layered yacht ecosystem, from traditional to modern. Perseverance over the years has not only created a cruise accommodation brand, but also formed an “empire” of understanding, where each cruise is calculated to touch the traveler’s deepest emotions.
The focus throughout all activities of this ecosystem is the “Sweet Home” philosophy. This is not simply a slogan, but a sharp psychological positioning: amidst the vastness and sometimes strangeness of the sea, people always tend to seek protection. Oriental Sails has turned dry ships into warm living spaces, where familiarity and hospitality come first. Every small detail in design or service is aimed at erasing the distance between “guest” and “host”, creating a state of absolute relaxation as if the visitor is resting in his own familiar room. This position has been guaranteed by the title of Top 5 best waterway tourist transport businesses in Vietnam at the Vietnam Tourism Award, demonstrating a strategy that takes identity as the root and satisfaction as the guideline.
The clearest embodiment of that spirit is the Oriental Sails 1 cruise ship – an intersection between heritage beauty and contemporary resort standards. With traditional wood materials, the ship brings a warm feeling at first sight through rattan furniture and polished wooden floors. The system of 18 cabins is delicately designed with large glass doors overlooking the sea, turning the bedroom into a mobile observatory for visitors to fully capture the magical beauty of the bay right from their bed. In particular, the comprehensive upgrade milestone in September 2019 has eliminated all concerns about the deterioration of wooden ships, bringing absolute peace of mind. The 280m2 rooftop opens up to a spacious sky for Taichi sessions to welcome the sunrise or quiet moments to watch the brilliant sunset, creating a journey full of emotional depth.

Each Oriental Sails Cabin has a balcony facing directly to Ha Long Bay
That feeling of “coming home” is further strengthened through culinary flavors – the soul that keeps the fire burning for every trip. At the restaurant with a million-dollar view, every meal is a cultural journey, where Ha Long’s fresh seafood blends with the quintessence of international cuisine. The sophistication lies in the fact that the meal is not dry and commercial but more like an intimate family meal. Guests can also experience a cooking class right on the deck, rolling traditional spring rolls by hand while sharing laughter with new friends. In particular, romantic candlelight dinners in the wine cellar or on the sundeck are the perfect catalyst for deep emotions amidst the vast ocean nature.

Oriental Sails JSC’s strength lies not only in a single ship but also spreads to fellow “members” in the ecosystem to please all customer segments. If you crave absolute luxury, Starlight CruiseWith a steel shell with a double bottom and double sides, it is a classy “floating resort”, with a private Jacuzzi bathtub and mini golf course in the middle of the sky and sea. Meanwhile, Calypso Cruises is the choice of aesthetic souls who love the poetic Indochine style and sophistication of ancient French architecture. This diversity ensures that, whether you are looking for a traditional space to bond or a luxurious space to enjoy, the Oriental Sails ecosystem always has a “home” ready to welcome you back.
To fully realize the “Sweet Home” philosophy in practice, Oriental Sails 1 is designed with technical specifications that prioritize stability and open space, creating a solid foundation for travelers’ peace of mind. With a length of nearly 40m (39.80m) and a width of 7.55m, the ship possesses ideal proportions to operate smoothly through the calm bays of Ha Long and Bai Tu Long. Launching in 2009 and undergoing a comprehensive upgrade in September 2019 is a testament to the careful care of the management team, ensuring that the traditional wooden shell always goes hand in hand with the most modern and durable technical standards.
Inside the ship are 18 rooms (cabins) reasonably distributed on each floor, each room has an area of 14.5 square meters.$m^2$– a number that is well calculated to create warmth but not stuffiness. The most valuable point in the room structure is the large transparent glass windows system. This parameter is not only a technical detail but also an artistic intention, allowing natural light to flood the space and providing unlimited panoramic views even when you are relaxing in a cool air-conditioned room. Whether you choose a Double room for privacy or a Twin room for trips with friends, every amenities from the internal telephone system to the enclosed bathroom with standing shower are meticulously equipped, helping to dispel all prejudices about the inconvenience of wooden ships.
Safety and operational stability are also “speaking” parameters that create prestige for Oriental Sails. The ship operates at a leisurely speed of about 8 nautical miles per hour thanks to its durable engine system, helping visitors enjoy every breath of the bay without feeling vibration or unpleasant engine noise. In particular, with a team of 12 staff serving a maximum of 40 passengers, the service rate here is always high, ensuring all personal requests are met promptly. All safety parameters such as life jackets, fire alarm systems, smoke detectors and escape hammers are strictly arranged in each cabin and public area, creating an invisible “shield” of protection, so that your journey to discover heritage is truly the most peaceful and complete return home.
If the architectural space is the frame, then the cuisine is the breath that creates vitality for Oriental Sails. At the luxurious restaurant with a spacious view of the bay, each meal is designed as a miniature cultural journey. The menu is a harmonious combination between the fresh seafood flavors typical of Ha Long sea and the quintessence of diverse international cuisine. Dining in a cozy space, under soft yellow light and the sound of crashing waves, brings an absolutely relaxed psychological state, making visitors feel like they are truly being cared for in a family meal rather than a simple commercial service.
The most interesting emotional touchpoint in the culinary journey is the cooking class (Cooking Demonstration) right on the deck. This is the time when visitors can not only enjoy but also touch the soul of Vietnamese cuisine by rolling traditional spring rolls or trimming decorative flowers from vegetables. This activity creates a strange bond: tourists from distant lands share laughter and learn a new skill together in the vast space of heaven and earth. It satisfies the desire to explore and understand local identity in the most authentic way.
In particular, for those souls seeking absolute privacy, romantic dinner service on the Sundeck or in the quiet space of the Wine Cellar is an option not to be missed. Amidst the flickering candlelight and cool ocean breeze, exquisite dishes combined with premium wines become the catalyst for deep conversations. Oriental Sails was very sophisticated in understanding that: a delicious dish can make people remember a trip, but an emotional enjoyment space is what makes people want to come back.

Don't worry too much! Halong Bay and Bai Tu Long are closed seas surrounded by thousands of limestone islands, so the water surface is often very calm like a lake. With a leisurely cruise speed of 8 knots and a graceful wooden ship design, vibrations are minimal. If you are an extremely sensitive guest, choose rooms on the first floor (lower floor) to minimize the feeling of movement.
To be honest, Wi-Fi waves in the middle of the ocean are sometimes as "romantic" as the clouds in the sky. Although the ship is equipped with a 3G/4G internet system, when going deep into caves or the core area of the bay, the waves may flicker. This is essentially a "golden opportunity" for you to do a digital detox and really connect with your fellow guests.
Oriental Sails has fully prepared hotel standard towels, washcloths and basic toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shower gel, shampoo) in your self-contained room. You just need to bring your personal swimsuit to relax at Ti Top Island beach and a pair of comfortable sneakers to conquer the stone steps at Sung Sot (Surprise) Cave.
"Sweet Home" means taking care of each member in the most unique way. You just need to notify the reservation department or ship manager at least 24 hours in advance about your special diet (vegetarian, peanut allergy, no onions, or Halal food...), the chef team will prepare a suitable menu while still ensuring sophistication and deliciousness.
When night falls, Halong Bay takes on a mysterious beauty. You can try your luck with night squid fishing right on the deck - an extremely interesting experience that requires patience. If you like excitement, the bar area is always ready with Karaoke service or board games (chess, Chinese chess) for you to interact with international guests.
Although basic services are included in the tour, you should still bring some cash (VND) to pay for drinks at the bar or buy souvenirs. Oriental Sails accepts payment by international cards (Visa, Master, Amex), but in some cases where the card machine signal is weak at sea, cash is still the quickest "savior".
Halong has its own look every season, but if you love clear skies and bright sunshine for taking photos, April to June is the ideal time. If you like the slightly chilly, romantic and misty atmosphere of the bay, visit around November to January next year. However, always monitor the weather forecast as trains may be delayed if there is a tropical depression or storm.
