SUP boarding stands for Stand-up Paddleboarding, a water sport that involves standing on a board and using a paddle to glide across the water. SUP originated in the 1940s in Waikiki, Hawaii, pioneered by John Ah Choy, a local surf enthusiast. Considered an offshoot of surfing, it rapidly gained global popularity by 2001. However, SUP was introduced to Vietnam relatively late (around 2010), and it wasn’t until 2020 that it truly flourished in Halong Bay.

Participants are provided with life jackets and paddles, with each board comfortably accommodating up to two adults and a child. You may choose to paddle either standing or sitting, depending on your personal comfort and balance. To steer effectively, keep the paddle close to one side and execute sweeping strokes to change direction. To maintain poise, keep your center of gravity low and engage your leg muscles to adjust and stabilize your posture on the board.
