Hon Xep Islet

An Introduction to Hon Xep Islet

Hon Xep Islet, also known as Lo Ngoi (Tile Kiln) Islet, is magnificently situated at the heart of the Hon Xep Geological Park. The island derives its evocative name from its distinctive architecture; viewed from a distance, it resembles an Egyptian pyramid formed by layers of meticulously stacked, square-cut rock strata, creating a striking and surreal silhouette. Soaring to a height of approximately 21 meters and located roughly 30 kilometers from Tuan Chau International Passenger Port, Hon Xep is proudly featured as a destination along Halong Bay’s Route 4—an exclusive itinerary offering a serene, off-the-beaten-path voyage of discovery.

Hon Xep showcases rugged topography adorned with intricate crevices shaped by weathering and geological forces. Composed primarily of sedimentary limestone, the island’s original horizontal strata have undergone an extensive evolutionary history marked by intense tectonic shifts, giving rise to complex fractures and majestic folds.
