The ‘đò nan’ (traditional bamboo boat) is a quintessential vessel crafted from bamboo and wood, long serving as an essential mode of transport for the fishermen of Ha Long Bay to navigate its intricate waterways. As the prestige of Ha Long Bay has grown globally, these bamboo boats have evolved beyond simple transport; they now offer a bespoke travel experience, inviting guests to glide gracefully through the bay to explore hidden limestone karsts, majestic caves, and the authentic, vibrant culture of local fishing villages.

Each bamboo boat comfortably accommodates four to six passengers. Your rower is a local fisherman from the bay’s floating villages who doubles as an insightful guide, sharing stories about the beauty and cultural significance of each destination. During the journey, you will visit community hubs and experience the authentic daily life of the fishing village residents. Furthermore, your rower will lead you through magnificent sea caves, past towering limestone cliffs, and into secluded lagoons hidden deep within the karst formations. Immerse yourself in the pristine sea air, capture stunning photographs, and enjoy heartfelt conversations with these dedicated fishermen, who are always eager to share their world with you.

Due to the distinct climate of Northern Vietnam, the ideal time for bamboo boat rowing in Ha Long Bay is from August through June of the following year. This period generally offers calm, storm-free waters. Even during the cooler winter months, the low-exertion nature of this activity ensures a comfortable experience. From late June through July, the region enters its peak storm season; as a result, boat operations may be subject to frequent delays or cancellations for safety reasons. However, if the weather is favorable, visitors can still enjoy this activity. We advise guests to prepare appropriate clothing and sun protection during the hot summer months.

Popular premium day cruise options visiting these areas include Ambassador II and Sea Octopus, with prices starting from approximately 1.3 million VND per person.
